When alive, the beast would have resembled a gargantuan, fanged tarpon. Skeletal remains of Xiphactinus have come from Kansas, Alabama, and Georgia. Despite being preyed on by sharks and mosasaurs, X. audax was, nonetheless, a voracious predator
