Kakinomoto no Hitomaro (c. 653 710) was a Japanese waka poet and aristocrat of the late Asuka period, ranked as one of the Thirty six Poetry Immortals. Portraits of the Immortals were popular in Japanese painting and woodblock prints, often displayed in temples.
